We have opportunities for young people aged 5 – 17 to take part in fun packed experiences at Theatre Royal this summer. Over 5 days, we’ve got something for every school age young person to get involved.

Play in a Week!
Over 5 days, our young theatre makers will create their own work to be performed for parents at an informal Studio show back on the last day. Supported by a drama practitioner and support worker, the group will decide what they make. It could be a comedy, tragedy or a musical but it will be all their own work!
Suitable for young people aged 5 – 11 years and delivered in two classes according to age (5-7 & 8-11 ).
Each Play in a Week course lasts for 5 days, runs from 9.30am – 3.30pm daily and costs £185
For 5-15 years
5 Day Film Challenge
Working with Hype films, budding film makers and actors create their own film shorts. From writing to directing, lighting to sound and everything else it takes to produce new work, there’s a chance to take part in the whole process. Screening for parent’s on the final afternoon.
Each 5 Day Film Challenge course lasts for 5 days, runs from 9.30am – 3.30pm daily and costs £200
For 11-17 years
Musical Theatre
This 5 day, intensive, Musical Theatre week showcases the work of the group in our Studio Theatre. Working with a voice & singing coach and choreographer, it provides the opportunity to perform some of the best known and country’s favourite, musical numbers!
The Musical Theatre course lasts for 5 days, runs from 9.30am – 4.30pm daily and costs £220
For 11-16 years
TRY
Over 5 days join us to explore the world of Performing Arts, from a building tour to creating new work, from directing to movement, set design and lighting to sound.
TRY Everything for 8-13 year-olds lets you sample lots of the exciting elements that go into working in theatre, and includes a ticket and visit to the theatre to see Barnum on Wed 12 Aug
TRY Technical course for 12-17 year-olds explores lighting, sound, stage management, a theatre tour, costume and prop making. Ideal for young people who are interested in technology, design and managing performance.
TRY Everything, 9.30am – 3.30pm* daily and costs £220
TRY Technical, 9.30 – 4.30pm daily and costs £220
*Please note there will be a slightly later end time on the day of the Barnum performance during the TRY Everything week.
